The Lilo-log #80: ESRB Speaks on In-Game Purchases! Presented by Saljack Enterprises. Gaming. Animation. Media. Entertainment. Woman Owned. Short Films. Animated Movies. Kids Cartoons. Game Development.

In this video, Lilo discusses ESRB Speaks on In-Game Purchases!

Loot boxes, DLCs, and in-game purchases. Oh, my! In-game purchases have been a hot topic for the gaming industry since last year. The big question has been whether loot boxes are gambling. Lately, legislation has requested laws be made about in-game purchases. Throughout all of this, the Entertainment Software Review Board (ESRB) has remained mostly quiet. They said loot boxes are no more gambling than trading card games.

Their silence has been broken! The ESRB has ordered video games to label if they have in-game purchases. However, their officially ruling leaves a lot of room. It is simple for game companies to get around the label. No changes have been made on age ratings.

Lilo Nash thinks the ESRB wants to avoid doing much about in-game purchases. It would open a can of worms. If in-game purchases are gambling, what will happen to trading card games? Would games like YuGiOh! and Magic the Gathering have age restrictions?

The next topic will be Australian Gaming Industry!

We hope you enjoy and please like and subscribe to see more videos from Lilo Nash!

  1. My opinion about in-game purchases is already solid from the beginning and I am not actually aware about ESRB, that’s why their official statement doesn’t mean a lot to me.

  2. numberpardox says:

It will be hard for ERSB to control game companies about the issue on in-game purchases because it’s another way companies earn besides on the initial payment of buying the game.

  3. moondebi says:

In-game purchase is a kind of trap where the gamers get tempted to use real money. ESRB made a good point by making companies label those games which have in game purchase option. If anyone still wants to pay then it would be their wish.

  4. bobstravel77 says:

Thank to ESRB for taking action! Hopefully we will see a shift in microtransactions in AAA titles!

  5. photography1257 says:

I bet companies like EA are starting to shake in their boots now! If even ESRB is taking action against this, then you know it can’t be a good thing.

  6. Edwin Kamau says:

Wow, surprisingly, this matter has been the talk in gaming industry. It’s now time for the law.

  7. David Kamau says:

It’s a good time to see what this turns out at the end. Will there be age limits for certain games?

  8. titanierza says:

One point must be focused here ” IN GAME PURCHASES” Meaning Yugioh nor Pokemon is not included. Then again, I do not know the in and outs of the game creator head but yeah.

  9. cmblog834 says:

What the hell is wrong with these people. Why are they doing this to the gamers? I mean there are things in this world that needs to focus on.

  10. grayicemake says:

I do not know much about loots but I can relate to grinding. I mean gamers wants the best items for their avatars and that is a way for developers to have more money. However, be kind to gamers. Nothing is more frustrating than grinding for hours only to get items that is not yours. I hate that.

  11. First thing I want to know what ESRB is. Is it a company or is a regulating board for such games. Second, I love YugiOh! way back when I was a child and I love playing the games as well. I hope they can surpass this.
