In this video, Lilo discusses Is Single Player Dying on Console?
Lilo believes that single player games are dying. Specifically single player games for Xbox and PlayStation. Many AAA developers have said their focus is now games as a service. Games as a service are multiplayer games that are continually updated with new content. This includes microtransactions, loot boxes, and DLCs.
Single player games do not make much money. The cost to make high-end games has continued to increase. However, the cost of games in stores has remained the same for many years. Raising the price of games would result in loss of sales. That is why game developers are using microtransactions and other in-game purchase options.
This is why EA shut down Visceral Games last year. This canceled the creation of a much anticipated Star Wars game.
Stay tuned for more Lilo Nash Monday next week!
