Lilos Lair 94 March Free Games and Square Enix Weekend

MARCH! Yes, it’s March. The month Spring starts. I’ve already spotted some evil wasps and have resigned myself to running and screaming. I swear they smell my fear.

Being a new month that means Xbox Gold and PlayStation Plus has a new lineup of free games. Before I get into those, I want to talk about the Square Enix Publisher sale at Steam this weekend. This is a great sale–awesome games at good discounts.

The homepage for Steam Square Enix deal is here. A big highlight is NieR: Automata at 50% off. Also Deux Ex: Mankind Divided is 80% off (only costs $5). Rise of the Tomb Raider is 67% off. The new DLC for Final Fantasy XIV Online–Stormblood— is 50% off. Actually, a whole mess of Final Fantasy games are on sale along with a ton of other really great games. It’s definitely worth looking through the sale page.

Enough of that. Let me link you to the console sales this weekend before launching into the free games.

Here is the rundown of all the Xbox store sales right now. Highlights include Forza 7 for 35% off and Terraria for 70% off.

Here are all the PlayStation sales right now. It is the Critic’s Choice Sale. Some highlights are Horizon Zero Dawn: The Complete Edition for 30% off and a Titanfall 2 & Battlefield 1 bundle for 50% off.

Now, let me address March’s free games.

Bloodborne (PS4)

Bloodborne is an action role-playing game from 2015. There are many elements similar to Dark Souls. In this game, you play Hunter, in a Gothic, Victorian city where a blood-borne disease has taken hold of the people. The reviews are really great. 92% on Metacritic and 9.1/10 on IGN.

Ratchet & Clank (PS4)

2

IMAGE FROM PLAYSTATION

This is the 2016 re-imagining of the original platformer. This is a 3D game that is also a shooter. This is another great game for PlayStation’s free lineup this month. The reviews are great with an 85% on Metacritic and 9/10 on IGN.

Mighty No. 9 (PS4 & PS3)

3

IMAGE FROM STEAM

This action platform game that looks like Mega Man. You are in control of the android Beck while doing normal platformer things like running and jumping. You also shoot projectiles and can gain the abilities of fallen enemies. The reviews are pretty mediocre, with a 5.6/10 on IGN and 52% on Metacritic. Most say it’s overall poorly executed.

Legend of Kay Anniversary (PS3)

4

IMAGE FROM PLAYSTATION

Yet another action-adventure platformer! This one is about a young cat warrior called Kay who’s island is being run by gorillas and rats. This anniversary edition of the game came out in 2015 and features improved graphics and online leaderboards. The reviews aren’t too bad with a 72% on Metacritic.

Claire: Extended Cut (PS Vita & PS4)

5

IMAGE FROM PLAYSTATION

This is an adventure, horror game all about a young girl and her dog. The extended cut offers more details about Claire. The overall story is about her trapped in some weird, frightening world that she can’t find her way out of. There is not a whole lot of reviews on this game but from what I can see it has okay reviews, teetering between positive and mediocre.

Bombing Busters (PS Vita & PS4)

6

IMAGE FROM PLAYSTATION

This is a simple arcade game about bombing critters in mazes. There’s nothing really that novel about the game, but it is free and is a style of game many like. It’s essentially a Bomberman clone. There aren’t really any big reviews on the game.

Trials of the Blood Dragon (XONE)

7

IMAGE FROM UBISOFT

This is a platformer game that came out in 2016. It’s also a bit of a racing game. It has a unique style that looks very cyberpunk. The reviews are mediocre with a 55% on Metacritic and 6.9/10 on IGN.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India (XONE) Until March 15

8

IMAGE FROM UBISOFT

This is the straggler from last month. It’S a re-imagining of the Assassin’s Creed series. The Chronicles game gives a 2.5D, side-scrolling experience. There are three games in the Chronicles series, India being the second (China the first and Russia the last). India takes place in 1841 and stars Arbaaz Mir. This has a 64/100 on Metacritic. There are some mixed reviews, claiming Chronicles is too simple.

 SUPERHOT (XONE) March 16th-April 15th

9

IMAGE FROM STEAM

This 2016 first-person shooter is a little different than most. Time only moves when the player is moving. Which makes for a slower paced FPS that graciously gives you time to assess what’s going on. It’s got a very minimalist look. The reviews are pretty good with an 83% on Metacritic and 7.5.10 on IGN.

Brave: The Video Game (Xbox 360 & XONE) March 1-15th

10

IMAGE FROM STEAM

This 2012 adventure game is indeed all about the Disney movie by the same name. The game follows the movie’s storyline. It’s about a young Scottish princess who accidentally has a witch turn her mother (And three younger siblings) into bears. Whoops. The game has mixed reviews with a 71% on Metacritic and 8/10 on Steam.

Quantum Conundrum (Xbox 360 & XONE)  March 16-31

11

IMAGE FROM STEAM

A 2012 puzzle-platformer game that’s directed by a lead designer on Portal. In this game, you’re the nephew of one oddball genius scientist. Good ole Uncle Quadwrangle very quickly has an experiment go bad, and it’s up to you to figure out how to clean up the mess. The reviews aren’t too bad with a 76% on Metacritic and 8/10 on IGN.

Thanks for sharing a lot of Free Games. I read the reviews about it and unfortunately, it got low and sometimes even negative ratings. I’ll be looking forward to more free games post from you, Lilo 🙂

  21. That’s a pretty low score for Assassin’s Creed Chronicles. It actually depends on which version you will play. I played the China one and I really had fun.
