Lilo's Lair #34: Free Games on Steam. Presented by Saljack Enterprises. Gaming. Animation. Media. Entertainment. Woman Owned.

The week has finally come to a close and the weekend is right here! Just think, next Friday, the 22nd of September will be the first day of Fall! I am so very excited to put the summer heat behind me until next year. To celebrate I’ve found seven free games available on Steam. These are new games, and all have come out in August or September. Also, all have mostly positive reviews at the very least. Wouldn’t want to waste your time with a bad or failed game!

These games are in no particular order. There are many different genres from adventure to card games. There are also a couple of VR games for those with VR headsets.

#1 Null Vector

IMAGE FROM STEAM

Null Vector just came out on early access August 30th and thus far has the title of “very positive” reviews. However, it only has 75 total reviews to date so you may still be taking a chance with this one.

This is an action game in the awesome  1980’s cyberpunk-like style of dark neon colors. Null Vector is also a rogue-like, or rogue-lite, game. That means it is a type of role-playing game about crawling through dungeons. It also usually means perma-death, and that is certainly true for this game. Another fun thing about this game is each level is randomly generated, making every play through different.

#2 Insidia

IMAGE FROM STEAM

Insidia is the newest game on the list, having come out September 7th on early access. This game has “mostly positive” reviews, and has a grand total of 66 reviews thus far.

This is a turned based strategy/tactical game. The game features fast-paced duels in which you create a team of four. The setting of Insidia is a post-apocalyptic fantasy world. There are characters who range from fantastical to spunky punks.

#3 Island Dash

IMAGE FROM STEAM

This game is fun. Island Dash came out August 30th and has very positive reviews. It also has a total of 196 reviews, which isn’t too shabby.

This game is a casual adventure game. You play as a fat tourist vacationing on an island. This guy needs a hot dog or he’s going to die, haha. What you have to do is run around the island collecting as much money as possible in a short time so you can get this guy his hot dog. He will literally die if you are too slow. Poor guy.

#4 War Robots VR: The Skirmish

IMAGE FROM STEAM

A virtual reality game! War Robots came out August 10th and with 206 reviews it has a very positive rating. This is just a demo, so it’s rather short, and you do need a VR headset.

This is an action simulation game where you get to use your VR headset to pilot a huge robot. You move around a destroyed city battling it out against other huge battle robots. The world is in a never-ending war and in the demo, you will find out why you and your partner are in this fallen city.

#5 The Ranger Lost Tribe

IMAGE FROM STEAM

The Ranger: Lost Tribe came out August 2nd and has 105 reviews that are very positive. This is another virtual reality game that does require a VR headset.

This is an action role-playing game. The game concentrates on exploration and fighting. There are a lot of skills to explore and master in this game. There are multiple weapon types such as the sword, crossbow, shield, bow, and spear. You can also use stealth, dismemberment, enchantments.

#6 Fishing Planet

IMAGE FROM STEAM

Fishing Planet came out August 11th and with 9,745 reviews has the most reviews of all the games on the list. It has mostly positive reviews.

This is a fishing simulation game that brags about being ultra realistic. This is a first-person multiplayer game. the multiplayer aspects include tournaments and leaderboards. The people who made this game are fishing enthusiasts and they really strive to create a game that brings every aspect of live fishing to the game. There are things such as realistic tackle damage, dynamic water graphics, and seasonal weather changes.

#7 Hand of the Gods

IMAGE FROM STEAM

Hand of the Gods came out on early access September 12th. It has 88 reviews and a very positive review score.

This is a strategy game, and also a card game. Hand of the Gods is from the same people who made Paladins (another free game to check out if you haven’t yet). In this card game, the cards come to life on the battlefield. The cards center around ancient mythological gods from Greek, Chinese, Egyptian, Roman, and Norse history.

That rounds out the list of seven new, free games to try out on Steam. The games on the list all have mostly positive reviews. However, as you can see some of these games do not have many reviews yet! So don’t rely on the review score too heavily when choosing a game.

If you are not interested in computer games and prefer something on console, then check out this blog of mine from earlier this month. In it, tell you about all the new free games on Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus for the month of September.

A good mix of magic, combat and mystical creatures. War Robots in virtual reality sounds like an amazing grab. I bet it’s on a whole other level of wickedness.
