Xbox users can pick up their controllers and rejoice because just this week they’ve added seven new games to the Xbox store. It’s a pretty sweet lineup that includes everything from a retro arcade game to a large open world survival. Don’t fret if you aren’t on the Xbox bandwagon, all of these games are available on multiple platforms. That way everyone can keep on reading and look forward to every new game on this list.
Sonic Mania

Sonic was the very first game I ever played, so my ears always perk up at the news of a new Sonic game. This game was released August 15 for not only the Xbox One, but also the Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. Later this month it will also be released for Windows. This is indeed a side scrolling game just like their classics for the Sega Genesis–which is precisely what I started on. I’m pretty excited about this game. It is twelve levels, including some revamped versions of the classic maps from games of the past, and also some brand new ones. Find the giant hidden rings in each map to be transported to special 3D-like stages.
Agents of Mayhem

Released August 15th in North America for the Xbox One but also PlayStation 4, and Windows. Agents of Mayhem is an open-world, single-player, action-adventure game. Pick three agents from a pool of twelve to complete missions in a futuristic Seoul, South Korea. There is the primary campaign to follow but also unlockable missions that can lead to new agents. All the agents have their own personalities and skills, including specific weapons.

Another survival game! This one is specifically a horror survival game, oooh. It does look pretty creepy. I might need to avoid this one or only play in bright rooms filled with lots of people-haha. Welcome to 2084 Poland, a world much more somber than our own in this game. There has been a digital plague that wiped out a large percentage of the population as well as war and rampant drug issues. You play as Detective Daniel Lazarski on what is called the Observers police unit. Your job is to hack the memories and fears of people with a device called the Dream Eater. This game is also available on Windows and PlayStation 4.
Pillars of the Earth

This game is based on a book–which I think is kind of cool. If you’ve read the book, then you’ll be familiar with this game because you get to play as a few of the main characters and change the story line of the book through your gameplay! Therefore this is like an interactive novel. For those unfamiliar with the book this game takes place in the twelfth-century English town and is about building a massive Gothic cathedral in the town of Kingsbridge. It is a gripping story that was a bestseller. This game is also going to be released for PlayStation 4, Mac, PC, and Linux. I love the idea of a game with a vibrant story.
Circuit Breakers

Released August 16 for Xbox One but this game has actually been out for the computer since 2015. This game is also now available for the PlayStation 4. This is an 80s style arcade shooter. This game can be played as either a one player or up to a six person co-op. You will shoot your way through a robot army with a selection of weapons while trying to rack up combos and earn upgrades. This is a frenzied fast pace game that is very easy to jump into without much learning. Try to get the high score!
Conan Exiles

Conan Exiles is an action-adventure survival game set in an open world. It was released for Windows in January of this year but just released August 16th for the Xbox One. You play as a customized character that has been rescued by none other than Conan the Barbarian. Now it is time for you to survive the prehistoric world as an exile. You see Conan saved you from your fate to be sentenced to death for crimes you’ve been convicted of. Which is why you are faced with the harsh desert called The Exiled Lands.
Thumper
Thumper is a rhythm game…what? A rhythm game is a music themed action game–like Rock Band or Dance Dance Revolution. In Thumper you are guiding a space beetle along a track. You will have to hit your keys in time with the music while also trying to traverse the world around you. Which may mean fighting enemies, jumping over spikes, and more. I really think this game needs to be seen to really get, so here is the trailer:
Thumper is also available for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, optional Virtual Reality for Oculus and the PS4 VR Headset.
Which one do you want to try most? I’m not sure I can pick a single one. A few are definitely going on my wishlist–notably Sonic Mania, Pillars of Earth, and Thumper. I can’t get over the Sonic nostalgia. Pillars of Earth calls to me because I’m a huge book nerd, and Thumper just looks fun. I love rhythm games, and this one looks different and cool.

I am familiar with Conan and the story can be made into a game. The creators though have to make it a bit longer.
