Ky's Korner #60: DC Universe Online. Presented by Saljack Enterprises. Gaming. Animation. Media. Entertainment. Woman Owned.

Hey, friends!

It’s true. Lately, I have been going through a bit of an online gaming phase so, I’m back to talk about yet another one that interests me. I’ve been researching DC Universe online to find out what I can before I download. I’ve probably gone through like… 5 games.. downloaded only to find out how disappointing the game was and to delete just a few minutes later so… I’m researching a lot more this time to hopefully avoid this process from its continuous repeat cycle. I’m hoping DC Universe is the keeper I’ve been looking for?

Problem is… I have heard and read some very mixed reviews. No doubt the game is awesome but, I am looking for free to play games… Yes, this one says it’s free to download but, I have heard that it’s not worth the download if you do not plan on making any in game purchases. This frustrates me… I cannot stand it when I download a game, you know wait all that time, watching the downloads progress every couple seconds, just to find I can’t continue without buying something. Ugh! I really was hoping this one would be different.

I have read that the download is worth it because there are 3 main levels and you can still get into those without making a purchase, and most of the in-game buys are for just for extras. Then I read, that eventually without paying a $5 fee, you will hit a brick wall… that your gameplay will be capped off at some point. I’m so confused!! Should I download it or not!? I know I’ve got some gamer friends out there that could weigh in on this… please feel free to comment!

Okay, so we know DC Universe is a massive online multiplayer game, set in the Universe of DC Comics. This sounds cool, but how cool? In the beginning, you are able to create your own original character and, your character will be able to interact with all the other DC characters you know and love. You will have to pick your fraction, will you be a hero or a villain? You will select either male or female, your desired body type, personality, movement mode, & weapon and power modes. There are a ton of feature modes as well, such as skin color, hair color, costumes, and color schemes. Or, you can choose from one of the pre-made templates they’ve provided,  based off original DC characters if you’d rather go that route. You choose your characters name, and soon you learn it is well known within the DC Universe community.

Right from the beginning the action begins, you must escape a spaceship, by fighting your way through. There is a tutorial to teach you how to strike and dodge…. once the tutorial is over, you officially become a member of the Justice League.

Our scene now opens to an old future world of destruction caused by battles between some of DC’s villains and heroes. Your first fight takes place in Metropolis. Lex Luther has command over, and army super-villains… and they are all out to get you. This battle is over the death of Wonder Woman at the hands of Lex. A worn down Batman appears as he commands our army of good guys.

As Wonder Woman was being slain by Lex, Superman heard her scream from out in orbit. A worn down Superman, a Superman we are not accustomed to seeing, makes his way to her. While holding her dead body, he realizes Lex has hidden Kryptonite pellets in her mouth, immediately paralyzing our hero. Lex then impales Superman with a spear tipped with Kryptonite. This isn’t looking good friends. Two huge heroes lost? I must find out how this all works out!

Either way, no matter what reviews I read, one thing is for sure… I will have to download this game. Even with the possibility of having to make some in-game purchases. I will at least see how far I can get. Maybe it’s one of those things where you can upgrade through a point system. Maybe I can climb my way up the old fashion way, through hard work, without having to invest too much.  A girl can hope… lol. Okay, I have to see a trailer now and maybe some actual gameplay.. let’s see what I can find…

Oh, there’s so many to choose from! Love that! Let’s watch the cinematic version first…

Okay now for the full opening game cinematic…

OOOOOOHHH, here’s some gameplay and it shows you the creation aspect of making your character…and it tells you how to give feedback so you can actually take part in the advancement of the game… love it when they do that!

Well, guys, I’m convinced enough to start my download as soon as I am finished here. How about Y’all? Will I see you in the DC Universe soon? Calling out to all of you out there who are already playing this… Is it as good as all the hype? Let me now your thoughts, please!!

Thanks again so much for stopping by Ky’s Korner… Can’t wait to chat again very soon!

It´s so exciting to have so many choices! I mean from the creation of my avatar to choosing the game. I love DC world. I definitely need to download this game. But I still wonder if I´ll be a super hero or a super villain LOL

That’s so cool. You can create your own member of the Justice League! It’d be cool if you could make your super-hero and your super-villain engage in combat. With this many choices, it appears to be the ultimate DC game. It’s kinda like World of Warcraft, but better.

I’m a Marvel fan but DCUO is one of those instances where I’m willing to try out the DC Universe since there’s a lot of hype surrounding that MMO game. However, just as you mentioned, I’m kind of hesitant myself when it comes to the possibility of investing into some in-game purchases, don’t want to end up spending more than I intended to.

I saw this game two years back If I am not mistaken. Why is it resurfacing now? Anyways it is a potentially great game.

This can be a good movie. Too bad it was not continued. The movie department could use materials like these. They could borrow it from the game if they want.

I love DC but I’m not completely excited to play this game. It’s enough for me to watch the movies. Anyway, I love your enthusiasm to look for cool games. 🙂

I am curious about the villain though. Who could it be? The fact that the heroes and villains were wipe out he must be OP as hell.

Despite me not liking this “universe,” I still feel compelled to download it. I have to experience it myself. If I don’t, then watch out for my rant! LOL!

If you have $5 why not download. You can only know how exciting the game is if you tried it. If I have spare money, that amount, I should give it a try. From the trailer, I don’t like the face of Superman. This keeps my interests.
