Ky’s Korner #51: Red Dead Redemption 2, Delayed Again?
Hello, Gamer Friends!
So… as you all know, I have been waiting for Red Dead 2 to come out for what seems like forever now. I know a lot of yall have been waiting right along with me and I am sad to report, it has been delayed yet again. NOOOOO!!! I mean, what the heck is going on??? I have to find out….
Rockstar Games has just announced that it will launch in Spring of 2018. This is frustrating, to say the least since we were told it would have been released this past Fall and here we are still waiting….
“This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans,” Rockstar stated in a recent post.
To try to smooth things over, Rockstar has promised fans that more details will be out this summer along with new screenshots. Those screenshots can be seen in the short video below…
Rockstar goes on to explain the reasons why we’re still waiting…
“The purpose of the delay for Red Dead Redemption 2 is to make sure we deliver the most extraordinary game we’re capable of providing.”
I believe that… I mean, Red Dead Redemption is one of the most detailed story games I have ever played. This is not just a game… It has become something much bigger than that. Not all games have the capability to actually make you feel for the character and his/her outcome. For me, I actually felt a strong connection to John Marston, an outlaw looking for not just his own redemption, that didn’t come until later in the game… but, he was a man that found himself on the wrong side of the law, and he just wanted out, for his family and for himself. It truly had me hoping he could turn things around… it had me cheering for the “bad guy,” who wasn’t really the bad guy at all…. and if you’ve played it then you know how the story wrapped up in the end. I’ll admit it, I cried like a baby. Everyone I know who has played it shares my connection to John and his story. That’s really hard to do… And that’s a lot for Red Dead 2 to live up to. Without giving too much away for those who haven’t yet played it… I will say it was one of the most dramatic endings I have ever witnessed. It has to be difficult to create something that so many people can relate to on such a deep level. Ask anyone who has played it, and I guarantee they feel the same. It’s just one of those games you cannot get enough of. I certainly wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the first installment… I wanted more! And I still want more….
Being the first game that Rockstar has actually built up from the ground up, they feel as if they need to be sure the game is worthy of its title. They have mentioned that they had to give the game more time to become the vision they have been working toward… and they won’t release it until they feel it is perfect. In a way, we have to thank them for wanting to bring us something so amazing. I have to agree, I would be devastated if it wasn’t up to par. I have high expectations for this next installment and they best not let me down…lol. They are aware of how much love there is for this game, and they know at this point they better live up to the hype. That’s a lot of pressure. I am so disappointed to know we have to continue our wait… But, I am just hoping, in the end, it will all be worth it, and I’m sure it will be.
“We have not run into particular issues, we are building a new game from the ground up for the first time for new-generation consoles. And the pressure that we put on ourselves to deliver excellence and to delight consumers is extraordinary.” Says, Strauss Zelnick from Rockstar. Looks like I’m right on the money when it comes to why their progress has been delayed.
“We want to make sure that the appropriate time is taken to do the very best job we can and I that’s what consumers expect from Rockstar games, and that’s what Rockstar games typically delivers. So we support the label’s decision emphatically, and we are utterly confident that it will prove in time to be wise first and foremost creatively and artistically, economically as well.” Zelnick explained.
Let’s face the facts here… Read Dead 2 will release sometime during Take-Two’s fiscal year in 2019. Yes, they say 2018 because that means it will finally arrive somewhere between April of 2018 and March 2019. Let’s just hope it sooner rather than later… again.
Before I wrap, this is up… I was able to find a few good trailers, here’s the first one that was released…
Awww man… even as short as that was… It has me feeling SUPER excited!! Here’s a video I found that breaks down and analyzes the trailer, discussing details we may have overlooked. I can’t help it… I can’t get enough of this game and chances are you can’t either. I am just too in love with Red Dead!
Well, guys, I hope that you find yourself more informed regarding the progress of this epic game, and I promise to keep you up to date if I happen to come across any future info.
How disappointed are you to find out the delay continues? As disappointed as me?
Let me know in your comments!
Thanks so much for stopping by Ky’s Korner… I catch up with yall next week. See you then!

I wonder what finishing touches they’re gonna add to that already awesome trailer? It’s already perfect! Release it now!
If this has a story mode like how can I turn a game into a movie. I will play it. I just want to see a good game movie.
Me too the wild west is not exactly my cup of tea even in films. However, this game looks promising I would not mind giving it a go.
This scored high on ” The Angry Joe Show” Now I see why but I do not know if the West is really my thing.
One of my favorite games of all time! Red Dead Redemption really stands out from the rest. Needless to say, I’m very excited for this sequel. I’m happy that Rockstar is doing their best to make it and epic game!
Thank you for the trailers Ky! I will have to console myself with those videos for now. Next year is such a long wait 🙁
Geez that trailer is super! I think this is worth the wait! Wooohooo!
I share the same sentiment with some of the commenters here. Frustrated. Been waiting so long for this. Only to be greeted by this news of another delay. Ay ay ay! I’m not gonna hold my breath for the Spring 2018 release.
I thought it was a movie. It looks real. It reminds me of the Lone Ranger maybe because of the horses. I mistaken it for movie that i have to check it once again and see that it is in PS Box or Xbox. It is not something I can start playing because it looks serious and I prefer the presence of girl power too, but thanks for sharing.
What’s the hold up? I think this is just some sort of business move. There’s lots of premium releases this year and I think Rockstar wants to have the limelight all for themselves when they release Red Dead Redemption next year. It sucks because I’ve been waiting for this for the longest time!
Next year? Seriously? I was hoping for a holiday release (the latest) but now it is pushed back even further.Oh well, nothing we can do but wait, right?
I am alright with it being delayed, though. Rather than get excited over some new games being broken even upon release lol
I have been hearing about this game for a long time. I do not know why it was delayed but I hope it will not be delayed further a good game does not deserve that.
I have never played the game but like any gamer delays pissed me off but what can we do/? I just hope that it will be worth the wait. Who knows I might buy it.
Their alibi is very lame. I wouldn’t be surprised if people will lose interest in Red Dead Redemption by the time it is released next year.
I was looking forward to this 🙁 I guess I will have to let it go this time and focus on other up and coming releases.
Aww man, Red dead Redemption 2 got delayed till next year! Oh well, at least Rockstar is giving us ample reason on why the wait will be worth it. Excited about the screenshots!
Well this better be worth the wait! Yeah the trailer looks very good, it’s already been polished and looks like ready for release. It also puzzles me why they’d move the release date that far back.
How frustrating is this? I’m super excited about this sequel too and now I have to wait a bit longer. Aaaargh! Rockstar should get their act together.
thanks for sharing a lot about games ms.ky! dont worry they’ll come out soon
Thanks for sharing this info. Im not familiar with this game but I think for gamers who know this, this is a disappointment.
