Ky's Korner #32: New Electronic Gaming Venue In Vegas! Presented by Saljack Enterprises. Gaming. Media. Entertainment.

What Up Friends!

So glad to have you back! You know me, I’m always surfing the web for Y’all… trying to get the scoop on the latest gaming news. During a recent search, I came across some really awesome competitive gaming info so, of course, I had to let you in on what I found…

Can you believe this…  Back in March, the 3rd of March to be exact… Las Vegas opened its first electronic sports and gaming venue… They began with a three-day Halo tournament… And trust me this arena is as big as you would expect any other sports arena to be. How cool is that! The whole venue is focused solely on electronic sports!! YESSS!! I’m a fan of anything that takes gaming to the next level for sure… this is so exciting! Gamers are sure to get the Major League treatment… or the Major Gaming League treatment, I should say… How awesome does that sound!?

The arena has everything that a sports venue would need. Stands for fans, giant screens for broadcasting, to keep the fans involved in the gameplay, screens for commentary, warm-up areas for the players, gaming consoles galore and studios for streaming. This sounds like a place I want to visit… as often as possible! If only…

We all know Las Vegas is always undergoing a facelift (no pun intended), doing whatever it takes to stay relevant to the times. This time I’d say they hit the nail on the head! This is an excellent idea for doing just that… couldn’t get much more current than this.. in fact, this may set the bar for future gaming and the extent one’s professional career. This is exciting news!

The venue is over 15,000 square feet, and it will host a slew of gaming tournaments. Vegas is hoping to attract the attention of the millennial crowd, roughly ages 15-34. This age group is quickly becoming the largest source of spending in our economy. They are more interested in the thought of online or tournament gaming than any other age group so, Vegas is counting on, not only cash in this age group but also hopes to keep them entertained enough to keep them coming back. We all know professional gaming has a huge fan base and now we have a place to showcase our skills at a whole new level.

Millennial E-sports is the company behind the creation of the arena and Seth Schorr, the CEO of Fifth Street Gaming as well as a member of the board for Millennial was quoted as saying… “Las Vegas needs to consistently reinvent itself to remain relevant to the up-and-coming generation. We’ve always come up with ways to maintain our position as the entertaining capitol of the world.”

He’s correct… and this was exactly the right move to do just that… In my opinion anyway.

And CEO of Millennial Esports Alex Igelman also stated, “The younger people don’t get enamored by the glitz and the glitter of something, it’s all about authenticity for them.” He’s so right on with that statement. Don’t you agree? Vegas must keep up with what the younger generations want… we don’t care too much for the glamor of something, we care more about feeling totally involved in it.

Just as with any professional football or basketball team… the gamers will enter the arena from a tunnel under the stands surrounded by screaming fans. They will then make their way to the center of the arena to stations loaded with consoles and other gaming necessary equipment. Over 3 miles of cable connect the arena to the gaming world and ports providing Internet speeds up to one GB are available throughout. Even when tournaments are not being held the arena will be open to casual gamers/gaming and those simply in need of high-speed internet.

Vegas is counting on the popularity of E-sports, and it’s ability to turn gaming into a real sport. In 2016 E-sports brought in 323 million viewers for the sport and is expected to grow globally to approximately 385 million viewers this year.

“E-sports no longer needs to be legitimized, it’s a huge sport already. There are Esports fans everywhere in this country.” Said Mike Sepso, co-founder of Major League Gaming.

So your probably wondering what this place looks like… I know I couldn’t wait to find out! Mayor Carolyn Goodman cracks me up!! The video below gives you an inside look at not only the video but the Mayors Halo gaming skills too. LOL!

Here’s another video with a few more pics of the gaming setup…

Last but not least here’s a few emerging gaming legends and their opinions on how this venue will shape the future of gaming….

Woohoo!! This had me so pumped! I hope it has you just as excited! Comment you friends and let me know what you think this means for gaming and gamers alike. How do you believe that this will shape the future of competitive gaming? Does it have you wanting to game professionally? I don’t know about you but, this has me ready for battle. Let’s go to Vegas and make our mark!!

Thank you guys for stopping by Ky’s Korner today and have a fantastic weekend! Until next week my friends!!

I only know Las Vegas for the place of poker games, vendo machines, and Casino’s and now they have a gaming avenue as well. This is one great opportunity for some gaming enthusiasts and game developer because it will showcase their new games and they have something too look forward to try those games.

  7. This is not surprising to me. For one Vegas has been a venue for a ton of people meaning any business would boom in it. I do not know if gamers will like it though. For they can be swayed to gamble.

Very interesting Ky. I wonder if this venue is open to everyone– no age limits? This will surely boost Vegas’ tourism since it will draw a new crowd.

Smart move Vegas. They know younger generation are addicted to gaming (and their exposure to it are younger then the age for gambling), So they must think : hey why not combine e-sports and betting/gambling ? nail the jackpot i guess.

Let’s head on down to Vegas! I love the place, I have lots of good memories of family vacations there. It’s just that recently, I haven’t visited as much as I wanted to. But this eSports arena is just the thing that will make me wanna go there ASAP!

  11. All I can say is WOW! I hope they make more of these arenas in major cities. I mean, I love Vegas, but it’s quite far from where I’m at. I will definitely be visiting Vegas this summer 🙂

I hope this trend continues not just in Vegas but all over the world. Players from far away areas will love this. Take it one city at a time.

Wow! Vegas does what other cities can’t! Been expecting LA or SF to be the first to have an eSports arena, but Vegas beat them! Good job!
