Ky's Korner #28: I Want A Flying Car Too!! Presented by Saljack Enterprises. Gaming. Media. Entertainment.

Howdy Friends!!

So this post isn’t about the latest gaming news but, it is about the latest flying car news. That’s right! If you haven’t heard yet.. this futuristic news is very real… FINALLY! I knew you guys would love to discuss this further… For us gamers technology is everything and this… well, this takes it all to a whole new level doesn’t it!?

When I woke up this morning, it was all over the news, and I could hardly believe my eyes. I knew this was possible… it was just a matter of when not if. Honestly, I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner. We’ve heard this was coming for a long time now.

Watching this thing fly through the air is thrilling, to say the least. It will probably be many years yet until they create one that is low cost enough to market to average consumers. It definitely comes with a hefty price tag… Only $1-3 Million or so to buy one as of now. Sooo…. unless your piggy bank is overflowing with millions.. we have a bit of a wait.

The great thing is… It totally runs on electricity, so… not only would we be getting around quicker but also much more efficiently. Amazing how they can make a flying car, and it’s even better for the environment. And hey… who doesn’t like to save on gas money. Just plug it in.. charge it up & go… love that!

There are two modular self-piloting flying cars out right now by Aeromobile & Airbus. Airbus is calling their version of the Vahana Flying autonomous vehicle, and they have actually been working on it for some time now. During this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Airbus demonstrated the cars modulated functionality. This means that it operates both on land and in the air. How sweet is that!? Imagine you’re stuck in traffic…. you’re in a hurry and your running late… It’s cool just switch your car into the pilot mode and take off, you’ll be there in no time. That would be so awesome!! This car was designed with just that in mind… it was first thought of to help minimize traffic congestion in the main cities.

Physically the Vahana looks like something straight out of a science-fiction novel, but it does have all the practicalities one would need from a car. Airbus has teamed up with Italdesign for this capsule like vehicle. From their perspective they are calling it the “Pop-up System,” which includes an artificial intelligence program, catering to suit the user/owner, creating specified routes and transit option creating the optimal course of action or to find the quickest route. Italdesign has brought the technology to a mind-blowing level, they truly thought of everything including, an interface that will interact and respond to the user in a virtual reality setting during transit. This intelligence also offers alternative usage of ones scenarios… It allows users to choose their destination, scan social media and choose the perfect music mix to keep them company during their travels. Planned destinations can be set using the user’s smart device or simply through its app.

“We have wearable technology that identifies you as you get in. You have a big display that tells you what’s going on, you get access to your own content, and you can enjoy your space and take your time during travel,” stated Thompson.

“The four main technology areas that we are looking at right now at Airbus is connectivity, it electrification, it’s autonomy, that’s how we can create new mobility solutions, and when we start thinking about that and realize that here in the automotive world, it’s the same themes. That is why we can see Synergy coming forward and joining forces,” he says.

A rep for Airbus, Mathius Thomas, has commented stating that this technology should be available within the next 5-10 years for consumers, no matter how far fetched the idea may seem. To me, this means by then the technology may be more affordable.

A huge setback they may be facing is the required infrastructure and regulations it would take to allow these passenger vehicles to fly over busy urban areas. “It’s not so much the infrastructure but it needs to be there and city planning, it all takes a bit of time. So we actually see a good timeline for the technology maturation and regulatory environments to work together within the next five to ten years,” says Thompson.

So now after all this chatting about it, I’m sure your ready to see it for yourself, if you haven’t already. It’s carried through the air by two wings that almost look insect like… in fact, they open and fold as such. What about you? Either way…We really are on the cutting edge of technology, and this surely proves it! Here’s the premier of the Aeromobile version.. and I think I love it!

This is the model made by Airbus. While this is totally awesome, I have to say is definitely looks like an oversized drone made for actual people. Still very cool how this thing transforms from land to air. I’d surely give it a go… No doubt! Here’s the unveiling at the Geneva Motor ShowEnjoy!!

Well, I hope you have enjoyed dabbling the future of flying cars with me as much as I’ve enjoyed talking with you about it!

Thanks so much for stopping by Ky’s Korner! Until Next time my friends!

  6. I bet there will be flying cars in the next decade as you said that it is very convenient because it uses electricity rather than paying for gas! Looking forward to it. 🙂

Looks like there are still many things to straighten out but this is exciting! Looks like reality will soon look like a sci-fi movie. :-O

  8. Hey you could’ve also mentioned about that flying taxi doing test flights in Dubai. Technically it’s a drone, but still, it’s about personal flying vehicles, right? Dubai plans to officially launch its drone taxis by next year. Finally, the dream of living like the Jetsons will come true!

  9. Impressive! However, I believe it will still be years away before this becomes mainstream. We still have to make laws to regulate air traffic for flying cars.

Great post! Actually from the futuristic way that people were talking about things in the past, I though flying cars would have been hear at least 5 years ago and we’d be flying down highways or something lol. But I guess things are coming to fruition now, but yet like many things, seems like only the super rich can afford them.

Nice technology. The best option is to wait for the “Henry Ford” of the flying car industry who would make it affordable for the average citizen. Contrary to what you said, I want to believe that the flying feature of a car wouldn’t help much when it is already stuck in a traffic. This is because the vehicle would have to taxi through a distance before it gets to fly (I suppose). It is actually amazing to live in the future of technology, but as our technology advances, so should our regulations. How can we put speeding and reckless drivers in check?

Is this the real thing or just a promotion? If it is then fact is slowly creeping in on fiction. I admit its a bit out of my price range.

As much as I like the concept of driving my own flying car, I think its still very expensive for public consumption as it is now. In another 50 years maybe so, but in 5-10 years ? i think that’s a bit too optimistic.

Flying car? I know it will happen one day, as before you remember there is a flying book> lols. I know it will not be as cheap as the regular cars but sooner or later, lots of people will afford it just to skip the traffic. Our country need this one.
