Ky's Korner #7: Iron Fist... Presented by Saljack Enterprises. Gaming. Media. Entertainment.

Hello my Friends!!

You guys don’t know this yet but I am a Netflix junkie! There’s just something about watching episodes back to back and without commercials that just…well… makes me happy.. lol.

So, I began this new series recently, The Iron Fist. It’s a brilliant collaboration between Netflix and the one and only Marvel. The Iron Fist is a Super Hero published by Marvel Comics and written by Roy Thomas & Gil Kane. The series first appeared in Marvel Premier #15.

To sum things up, the story goes like this.. more or less…

Growing up the son of a wealthy business man, Daniel Rand was open to all of life’s treasures. He grew up in the fabled city of K’un-Lun, a city existing in another dimensional realm. Danny’s father Wendell Rand was adopted by the Lord Tuan, the ruler of K’un-Lun, and became his heir to the throne.  Before this could happen, Wendell was run out of the city by his brother, Nu-an.

Nu-an longed to run the city himself one day and Wendell just got in the way. They were also in love with the same women, Shakirah, always fighting for her affection. She chose Wendell and together they had a daughter named Miranda. Wendell found refuge for his family and himself on Earth. Climbing the corporate ladder, becoming a very successful business man here in The United States. While away, Tuan dies and Wendell’s brother is given the title of ruler. He marries and they are blessed with a son, Daniel.

At the age of nine, Daniel traveled to Tibet with his father as well as his father’s business partner, Harold Meachum in search of the Nexus to K’un-Lun. While in Tibet, an accident occurs. Daniel and his parents plunge off a snowy mountain side, and his parents don’t make it. Everyone presumes Danny is gone too but, in actuality, faithful servants of K’un-Lun save young Danny from the harsh conditions. They raise him as one of their own and fiercely train him. Teaching him of their ways, and bringing out a strength he never knew he had.

By the age of 16 Rand earned the crown of Fu-HisKing Of The Vipers. To gain the crown he defeated Shu-Hu as well as two other enemies. Shu-Hu, meaning thunder, was an unstoppable mechanical being. In order to defeat him Danny conditioned his hands with, hot sand, gravel, then rock.

At 19 Danny was found worthy of the power of The Iron Fist. He was given a task to prove his worth, and it wasn’t easy…not one bit! He was sent to battle a fire-breathing serpent, Shou-Lau, The Undying. The creature heavily guarded a treasure containing it’s heart. The heart had been magically removed from it’s body.

As Rand defeated the serpent, he held it’s body as it imprinted itself on his chest. Reaching for Shou-Lou smoldering heart, his hands begin to mystically glow, and “The Iron Fist” was born. He can now summon super human energy that is transported through his hands, allowing him unbelievable strength.

Daniel returns to Earth and The United States to avenge his parents, take back what is rightfully his…and to find Meechum. He believes Meechum knows something about what happened to his family…he now wants answers and his suspicions are spot on. Danny focuses on regaining his legacy and making those who took it from him pay.

I love this series so far! It had me hooked right from the get go. The Iron Fist is a legendary tale unlike any other and with this series in tact we can now truly explore this character. A character that really hasn’t had much of a spotlight until now. The show focuses on the discipline Danny has within Kung-Fu and Martial Arts in general. It’s a very different approach than what we might be used to. Fighting without force but more about receiving the motions of others. Moving to follow your opponents strikes and predicting where the next one will come from. If your worried that their won’t be enough traditional Martial Arts for you…think again. Every great super hero needs a great side kick and The Iron Fist is no exception.

Colleen Wing has been a long time a beloved character by Marvel ever since her debut back in 1970. Colleen is a skilled detective and Martial Arts fighter. The perfect addition to the Iron Fist team. She has connections to X-Men, The Avengers, Spider-Man and Heroes For Hire. With a resume such as hers, we can be sure she is more than capable of  holding her own.

I strongly suggest that you guys check it out…

Let’s be hooked on it together!

It’ll suck you in and leave you wanting more…I guarantee!!

How lucky are we that it’s on Netflix!!?? Couldn’t be more simple than that…

Thanks my friends for stopping by! See you again soon!

Wow, incredible … I am amazed how you tell the details like this “Fighting without force but more about receiving the motions of others. Moving to follow your opponents strikes and predicting where the next one will come from.”

Sounds like Tai Chi, wonder if you study martial arts as well … lol.

I must be the only person in the world who has no Netflix. I can still chill, but no Netflix. Is this good enough to make me get Netflix?

“Moving to follow your opponents strikes and predicting where the next one will come from.” What I think that, different martial arts teach what opponent will do next. It is up to the student to practice many times.

Who says that Marvel cannot be both dark yet light at the same time Daredevil did it and so will this. I just know it.

For the longest time Iron fist has always been part of the B TEAM. It is now his time to shine. Marvel has been doing that look at Ironman as an example.

I haven’t seen this yet but read a few reviews about it. The common issue is that Danny Rand is supposed to be Asian-American, but a Caucasian guy plays the role. On the flipside, should martial arts expertise be only played by Asian characters? Oh it’s hard to be politically correct these days.
