Saljack Enterprises has allowed me to do movie reviews, so….I saw Kong over the weekend and just had to talk about it. I’ve read some reviews that weren’t all that great but, let me tell you…
Do not listen! Hater’s will be hater’s right!? Exactly!
I’ll be honest.. I’ve loved Kong since childhood. Most people from my generation do. So I may be a bit byist. I always feel so badly for him and not to mention I wanted a Kong of my own. Yeah, that’s right.. if only we could be BFF’s. That would be awesome! Yeah I’m a nerd… A cool nerd… but yeah…it’s whatever.. lol.
Some reviews are saying he is even less approachable in this version…Ummmm….
Okay… He’s a gorilla the size of a sky scraper… how would that ever be an approachable situation, really??? I think this film tried to take a more realistic approach and they pulled it off.
I mean..We all know the story.. the military attacks Kong fearing him only to find out he isn’t so terrible. He has a lot of love in that huge heart if his. Hard to tell at first due to the fact that he’s a giant gorilla… One would assume. But still..
This film takes you on a journey to a world beyond our imagination where Kong is King. He protects his homeland and those that find it hard to survive there. He is their God and he lives up to all of that hype. A lonely creature desperate for friendship in the most innocent of ways fighting to protect all he has left. You can’t help but cheer him on.
Most all of the creatures on his island are greatly over sized, even the smallest of insects. As you could imagine this causes the cast to get themselves into a few terrifying situations. And many don’t make it. In a place like this, mere humans are not at the top of the food chain by any means. Though humans do inhabit the island, they rely on Kong for protection. If not for him they would be eaten alive, literally.
The cast is top notch… Tom Hiddleston is charming and has you trusting his every move as he quickly becomes the leader of the bunch. Great accent too.. Wink-Wink.. Brie Larson from “The Room” plays whom I believe Kong falls in love with later (they for sure leave it open for a sequel) and she is superb. John C. Rielly of “Step Brothers” is super funny as always and brings some much needed comic relief. To me, every great movie has to make me laugh at least a few times. Samuel L. Jackson is also in this, playing the bad guy but pulling off a very believable performance.
I read somewhere that the ever so talented cast seems to get lost in the story and all the special effects. I say…
this story could not be told without all the special effects and the outstanding actors just add to the appeal of the movie. Kong movies have always been about the special effects, now we just have more advanced ways of doing it. Besides…the true star in this is Kong, as it should be. We watch to see him…we wait for the scenes that include him. We find ourselves eagerly waiting to see him throw a helicopter or smash a tank. It is what it is.
That’s called movie magic at its finest folks!
I saw Godzilla when it came out too. Between the two Godzilla was never my favorite but I found myself cheering for him at the end as well. Now that both movies have been released, I think it’s pretty obvious there will be a movie with both of them together.
Will it be another epic battle between the two or will they team up? Bot characters showed empathy and the need to want to help. They both save the day and in the end we grow to love them both. The character’s are different but the story is very similar. There becomes a very human connection with both of them so I am interested to see how these stories progress. If you are like me and love these types of movies, Kong will not disappoint.
I love it when you walk out of a movie pumped and can’t stop talking about it. That’s how this movie was for me..as if it wasn’t obvious already.. I was so pumped I had to write about it.. lol.
Most of all, I love when they take a classic, put a new age spin on it but without losing the original story. In this they did not take it to far..in my opinion. It’s just the right mix of old school and new school and it’s everything we have loved about Kong for so long. Thank you writers of Kong for keepin’ it real! So, if you haven’t seen it, I suggest you do it soon! Watch it and cast your own judgment. If you have seen it and would like to share your two cents, please do comment. I so enjoyed it and will be anxiously waiting to see the next chapter of the Kong saga!
Thanks for stopping by Ky’s Korner.. Until next time!
