Ru’s Daily Blog 12: You’ve Got Questions?… I’ve Got Answers!

G’Day Gamer Guys and Gals!

On Last Thursday’s Blog, we introduced a new element into Ru’s Daily, and that was answering reader and viewer questions.

We had such a great response from this, that we’re keeping it going!

Every Thursday, I will be answering your questions and giving you advice here on saljackenterprises.net!

So if you have questions that you want specifically answered on our Thursday addition, please mention that with your question;

(and please let me know if you want to remain anonymous!)

Thanks to Saljack Enterprises, we can stay connected and engage with each other in the gaming community!

Today’s question comes from “Ryan” in Arizona:

“Dear Ru,

I love your blog and your advice to the girl in your article last week.

I have a problem myself and was hoping you could help me.

I love to game, but I am finding that I am spending a lot of my time doing it.

I am choosing it over anything else…because I am too nervous to go out and meet people.

I don’t consider myself anti-social, I am just very, extremely uncomfortable in new situations.

Do you have any advice for me on how I can overcome this? Thanks, Ru.”

Hi, “Ryan”!

First of all, thank you so much for writing in. I am so glad you did!

You have to understand that it is OK to be shy and nervous!

That is not a problem. Just don’t let them see you sweat. 🙂

I know that might seem harder than it sounds, but the more you get out there, the more you can practice this.

I’ll give you an example. I consider myself an extrovert-introvert.

Meaning, if you met me, you would think I was a social butterfly. But many times, inside…

I am nervous and sweating, and wishing I was at home instead.

But the good news is – we CAN overcome our fears!

Each time you go out and try…you are succeeding.

Here is what I would suggest to get started.

Go to the grocery store, and when checking out, talk to the clerk.

Seems silly, but it is a good way to practice quick chit chat under a friendly setting.

(I mean, they are getting paid to be nice, right?) 🙂

Ask them a new question each time. Even if it is just, “How is your day today?”

Then engage them a little more and more each time you visit.

The more you find out about them, the more you can communicate with them the next time.

This simple practice will help you grow in a big way.

Next, go to the gaming stores!

You already like to game, and this is a setting where you can start conversations with people with the same interests as you!

From the store clerk to the patrons, they are all there to talk all things gaming.

So this is a perfect setting to practice in!

And most of us gamers are a little nerdy, so we are really easy to talk to!

You would be surprised at the amount of people that feel the same way as you.

Some of us are better hiding it than others, but all of us can feel a little unsure sometimes.

Bottom line is – you are robbing others of a chance to get to know you when you stay inside. You are an asset to this world – Allow yourself to shine!

And just so you know “Ryan”…

Gamer girls love a “shy guy!”

It’s endearing and sweet, and this type of guy is usually very respectful.

If this is true about you, already start honing your skills…because you won’t be alone for long! 😉

Every day is a new day! Live it – You deserve nothing less!

Please keep me posted on how this works for you.

And remember that you always have a friend in Ru!

Thank so much for tuning in readers!

What do you think of the new segment on Ru’s Daily?

How about the advice I gave “Ryan?” Do you agree with me?

If not, what would you have suggested instead?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts below and answering more of your questions next week!

Stay tuned tomorrow for another episode of “RuVealed” on “Ru’s Daily” here on Saljack Enterprises!

That’s pretty solid advice. Start small, in comfortable and low-risk situations. You’ll only get better at it!

Well I admire Ryan for getting this out of his system. I’m sure a lot of gamers feel the same way. I mean I can be anti-social at times too. But acknowledging is a good place to start. Good luck to you Ryan.

Socializing with people comes naturally to some. Others have to work at it. “Never let ’em see you sweat” is right on. You might always have a bit of nerves when approaching people. Gotta push trough it! Ps: Clerks really appreciate it when you acknowledge their existence! Perfect audience.

Gamers are like any regular person, we have fears and insecurities among other things. But it’s also important not to be disconnected to the rest of the world out there. It’s our obligation for our own self development.

Hey Ryan, ur not alone. I also have a hard time meeting new people but that’s okay. Hopefully in time, you will learn to overcome it by exposing urself to different types of people.

I can relate to low self esteem issues. Even I have a hard time opening up to people. However I am working at it.

I’m shy, too! The thing that worked for me is accepting the fact that not all people are social butterflies. Sometimes a person becomes shy because of too much expectation for him to be outgoing when in reality being an introvert is not a bad thing. Once you realize that you’re just fine the way you are you’ll feel less anxious with new situations.

I agree with your advice Ru that even a simple chat with a grocery clerk will help you practice. And it’s so sweet of you to pick this type of viewer question because you have such a big heart to help shy gamers out. Muah!
