Hello again! Today we continue with the third part of book 3. I hope you enjoy!
Mr. Smith peered up at the picture of Jonni.
“If our team were a computer, Jonni would be the hard drive.” he began. “His mental acuity is off the charts as his perseverance. A graduate of Harvard Law, Jonni can take a plethora of seemingly unknown facts and blend them together to form a cohesive narrative that will get the team’s message and mission objectives across. He also possesses the ability to intervene between team members and members of the public in the event of any disagreements or unforeseen complications. It also goes without saying that Jonni packs one hell of a punch which makes him a complete package.”
President-elect Carver looked impressed but confused. “Pardon my inquisitive nature Mr. Smith, but I just have to ask, why are we recruiting civilians for this group and not armed forces personnel. It seems they would be more the logical choice, would they not?”
Mr. Smith nodded to Warren Goldstein.
“This group was assembled President-elect Carver as a clandestine organization which, until you walked into the room, no one was aware of outside of this room. Recruiting serving members of the armed forces is a sure fire way to let the cat out of the bag, so to speak. Without government support and funding, the latter of which we know the country cannot afford, we would be considered a rogue militia operating on US soil, and this was the best way to make the claim of plausible deniability should everything go south.”
“At this point, with all due respect, it seems that you have thrown a bit of a wrench in our plans.”
President-elect Carver rose from his chair and looked Warren Goldstein dead in the eyes and Warren rose up to meet his gaze.
“I apologize, Mr. Goldstein if I have crashed your party but I am here for one purpose and one alone; to lend you and your group my support. As you said, the country cannot afford to fund this group and doing so would prove unpopular at best. That is something I cannot afford even if the country could. This is your rodeo, and I won’t question your tactics, or at least I will try not to very often. I am only here to observe, and help take back this country in any way I can, sorry for the interruption.”
Warren gestured to Mr. Smith to continue, and both he and the president took their seats again.
“So, as I was saying Analia is our next recruit” Mr. Smith continued. “Analia blends small town values with big city know-how and is a world class kickboxer. I am sure that many of you in this room recognize her and that, we believe, will play to our advantage going forward.”
The face of Shailan was next to appear on the screen behind Mr. Smith.
“Shailan was chosen for several reasons of which I will mention a couple. Number one, as with all of our recruits, he is a hell of a fighter. He learned young and never stopped perfecting his craft. Secondly, he is incredibly refined and charismatic. If the upper crust had a spokesperson, it would be Shailan. His sophistication and social prowess could prove invaluable to the team in particular infiltration scenarios.”
“Last but certainly not least our last recruit is Briiana. She is our youngest recruit, and she is a little rough around the edges…actually no, she is A LOT rough around the edges…and somewhat in the middle as well. But she has a raw anger inside of her that, when used in the right way, could end up saving this team. Her training is impeccable, and we feel she has the capability to become a dominant force with a few tweaks here and there.”
Mr. Smith ended his presentation on the new recruits with this.
“It is my opinion that these eight recruits are the best possible choices to keep the hybrid out of harm’s way and make him feel that he is in a safe and trusting environment. Others will be coming for him, and it is our job make sure that not only do they not get him but that he wants to stay here. Let’s face it if he wanted to he could leave at any moment. Maybe not right now but very soon we won’t be able to confine him forcibly. It is in his, ours and the country’s best interests, for Dylan to stay here with us and be part of the team. Alright, now for whom we are going to war with.”
