The Professor

Unmatched in intelligence and inventive capability, The Professor is a notorious mad scientist that is both immensely respected and greatly despised. Prior to claiming international fame as a world-class villain, he committed his life to research at the Masserchusetts Institute of Technology. The Professor was granted excessive amounts of funding to conduct studies in the field of genetic engineering. He made incredible scientific advancements in DNA manipulation, but the ends certainly did not justify the means. The Professor’s methods of experimentation were condemned as acts of barbarity; he was immediately ejected from MIT’s research program, permanently banned from participating in any future studies, and even added to the FBI’s Most Wanted list. As it turns out, forcefully injecting research partners with experimental DNA modifiers is illegal – especially when it ends in their agonizing deaths.

Despite law enforcement’s best efforts, The Professor has never been intercepted. After his genetic engineering trials at MIT went awry, he slipped into the outskirts of society to continue his maniacal work in secret. However, even a man as genius as The Professor could not continue operating without gaining the attention of other villainous individuals. Dr. Zu, a legendary hospital stalker with an obsession for surgically perfecting her paralyzed patients, tracked him down to negotiate a partnership. They brokered a deal: Dr. Zu would procure the victims for their twisted experiments while The Professor would formulate concoctions to alter their subjects’ DNA structures. Together, Dr. Zu and The Professor will usher in a new species of genetically engineered, anatomically-perfect beings.

The Professor, otherwise remaining unnamed, is a new villain for the world as we move forward without fiction into stem cell research and genetically modified food and food poisons. But why, even metaphorically, is he teamed up with the3 fashion industry, or perfectionistic plastic surgery? Is this fictional commentary aimed at the new American dream of never growing up? never getting old?

Stories of “Mad professors” and genetic engineering have been around since the publication of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. These ideas have almost become a cliché in popular culture. Countless television series, movies, and books have incorporated these ideas into their story-lines.

This professor seems to have admirable qualities as well as an dark, evil side. It is characters such as this which demonstrate that there can be multi-dimensional, complex characters, even in today’s popular culture climate. All the little details of his backstory help to flesh out his character.

Mad scientists are always fun. Interesting hand lasers, if that’s what they are meant to be, in the illustration. Some nice detail, using MIT, and nasty experiments that get him thrown out and pursued as a criminal. It might be nice to know his actual name, though.

Funny, you’d think that someone with the capability to modify genetic material and who has teamed up with a perfection creating plastic surgeon, would use some of these techniques on himself. I mean, he’s not exactly Dr. Kildare, is he? But then again, those obsessed with beauty are often not the most beautiful themselves, are they? And with today’s technology, designer babies, where parents can choose, sex, hair and eye color, height and other physical attributes, are not far off, so it only makes sense that an evil mastermind would want to jump that train and create fully adult superhumans in order to gain control first. I think it only makes sense no matter what the story line.

Is it only me but I prefer more information about Dr. Zu (just read her story too, btw)? Maybe because I’ve already seen some male “mad scientist”-type that it is almost cliché; so it would interesting to have a girl mad scientist for once.

Now this dude looks like a cool character, kinda reminds me of the Joker type. I think more radiant or glowing eyes would make this character more appealing though.
