A friend of mine asked me the other day what kind of video games I liked to play and I realized I didn’t really have an answer for him. Turns out that I really don’t have my gamer vernacular down.
“I like to run around and do things that are not part of the game, go exploring.” I said.
“So free-roam capability?” he replied.
“Um…sure” was my duly informed response.
It got me thinking about what I would say next time someone asked me that question and I came up with this. I like a game that involves a first person shooter perspective but doesn’t make me feel halfway through like a mouse trying to get out of a laboratory maze. I like a great story but like the opportunity to get sidetracked from time to time. I like to hunt for Easter eggs and not just at Easter. I like finding treasure. Yes I know it is not real but for 2 seconds I feel as if my financial worries are a thing of the past. I like to be rewarded for good deeds and thrown in prison for bad ones. I also like the ability to build and decorate my own dwelling.
So I guess what I am saying is there are a plethora of different genres out there in the gaming world and I want one that incorporates a little piece of all of them. Any suggestions?
