Today we present you the background story of Travour, the Student of Boxing:
Travour is a man of few words. Behind his expressionless face lies a hardened interior, forged over years of hardship at home. Born and raised in Philadelphia by two abusive parents, Travour quickly learned to depend only on himself. The emotional toll of constantly living in fear at such a young age forever scarred Travour. He never learned what it meant to have loving parents, or what it was to have a childhood.
Although Travour was unable to escape his oppressive home truly until the age of 18, he found ways to cope with the stress. A single punching bag, hanging idly on a rusted chain on his back porch, became his only means of blissful solitude during his teenage years. Day after day, Travour committed whatever time he could to sparring with the bag, imagining he was toe-to-toe against a real opponent inside the ring. His personal training regimen, coupled with his innate ability to take a punch, made Travour a formidable opponent for common street thugs – even those much greater in size.
Any human regularly subjected to relentless torment is bound to snap eventually. Travour was no exception. After granting his father a taste of his own medicine (and landing him in the hospital with multiple broken bones), Travour left home for good. He took to the cold, unforgiving streets of Philly, where he was determined to find a boxing gym that could put him to work. Travour found what he was looking for – and found a real family along the way. He now works tirelessly within his local boxing community to give back to the sport that saved him.
