The old saying goes that if you are going to make a bold statement you better be prepared to back it up with some cold, hard facts to support it. In my last post I lamented the fact that there was a severe lack of women within key positions in our industry so now here comes the backup.
One of the popular mainstream online sources for the latest gaming news recently named its Top 50 video game makers. I chose 6 of the top 10 to do a little research on using the all knowing dynamic duo of search engines and smarter people than me. Listed below are the number of women in key roles at the companies I chose. The names of the companies have been changed to protect the innocent but rest assured they are all major game makers and they know who they are.
Company S: 0
Company I: 0
Company M. 3 out of 12 key people identified
Company B: 0
Company V: 6 out of the 102 key people identified
Company R: 0
Now, I am sure that each of these companies employ many women and seek input from them but in the end the person or people making the decisions on what makes it to the masses is not one of them. Isn’t it about time we changed the game?
